October Date – Paint by Numbers October 22, 2012

I put together one year’s worth of dates (one date per month) for my husband as a Valentine’s Day present.  I’ve always wanted to do a paint-by numbers painting.  My husband is great at drawing.  I’m not such a great drawer, but I thought it would be fun to give this a shot!  Our date was relaxing!  I purchased two paint by numbers kits for us to paint.  We painted while listening to music.  We also enjoyed a bottle of sparkling wine that we purchased during a recent trip to Napa Valley!

The date card read “This will be a low key date at home.  We’ll drink wine and paint by numbers.  Love, Lisa.”  We worked on our paintings after the girls went to bed.  We WAY underestimated the amount of time it would take.  Take a look at what we accomplished after 2 hours (see photos below).  I have 22 different paint colors in my kit and I only finished 1/3 of one color in 2 hours!  Yikes!  I guess this will be the gift that keeps giving.  It might take a year, but we will get these done!

June Date – Arlington Park Race Track June 24, 2012

I put together one year’s worth of dates (one date per month) for my husband as a Valentine’s Day present.  Our June date was awesome.  The weather was perfect for a day at the racetrack!  It was really nice to relax, just the two of us.

The date card read “On this date… we’ll watch the horses out of the gate.  We’ve talked about going to Arlington Park.  Now or never.  Sun, Horses, Lunch, Bets, Beers, Fun.  Love, Lisa.”  In the June envelope, I included the date card and cash for our day at the park.

We stopped for lunch on the way …

We made some bets …  (That’s my sweetie in the white striped shirt surrounded by a bachelorette party.  Haha!)

We watched the races …

We listed to the band and had a few beers …

We got some sun …

And explored the park …

We didn’t win one race!  Boo!  After our date, we decided to bring the girls next time.  I think they would really enjoy seeing the horses.  There is an awesome lawn area at the park where you can pack your own picnic lunch and hang out.  They also setup a petting zoo and pony rides on Sundays!

Until next month…

Lisa

I put together one year’s worth of dates (one date per month) for my husband as a Valentine’s Day present.  Our May date was simple and perfect.  Once in awhile it’s just fun to go out and feel like a normal couple.

The date card read “Dinner and a Movie!  We’ll dine at our new favorite spot, Lucky Monk, and finally see The Hunger Games.  Love, Lisa.”  In the May envelope, I included the date card, coupons for the movie (I purchased a groupon a while back), and a gift card to “The Lucky Monk”.

My sister babysat the girls for us so we could enjoy the night out!  My husband brews his own beer, so anytime we can visit a Microbrewery, he’s a happy camper!  We sat at the bar and had a few beers while we waited for our table.  Here’s a picture of the taps at the bar.  I enjoyed the Tritica Wheat Ale.

Then, we enjoyed our dinner and had a nice conversation …

We watched The Hunger Games …

And called it a night!

Until next month…

Lisa

April Date April 18, 2012

I put together one year’s worth of dates (one date per month) for my husband as a Valentine’s Day present.  Our April date was a blast!

The date card read …  “I’m very excited for this date.  It’s Spring and we need some new clothes!  We’re going on a shopping spree.  We each have an envelope filled with cash to spend.  We must be ready for our vacation in May.  We will shop at Oakbrook, spend the night at the Embassy Suites, and go out to dinner, etc.  Love, Lisa.”

I included the date card, two envelopes of cash, and some wardrobe inventory worksheets.  I cashed in credit card points to get a Lettuce Entertain You gift card for our dinner at Wildfire!

Before our date, we cleaned out both our closets!  I really wanted to clear out my husbands closet.  I knew it was loaded with clothes he hasn’t worn in over 5 years+.  We filled up 5 garbage bags of clothes to send to goodwill.

After we cleared out our old clothes, we made lists of items we needed to purchase.  We are going to Riviera Maya in May, so we included items we’d need on vacation.

My mom babysit the girls for us so we could enjoy a day of shopping, eating, sleeping in, and just being together alone!!!

We had lunch at Moe’s, spent 6-7 hours shopping, checked into our hotel, freshened up, ate dinner at Wildfire (I LOVE their chopped salad), had a drink at the bar, back to the hotel and crashed! The next morning, we headed to a few more stores before returning home!

We both got loads of new clothes!  This is something we have never done before.  Maybe we can do it again in the fall!  Also, we both fell in love with Nordstrom Rack.  Why haven’t I shopped there before!?!

Here are some pictures of our loot!
