Bapron – It’s a Bib/Apron – So Adorable! February 21, 2012

My friends are having babies galore!  I made a few lucky babies a bapron.  It’s a bib/apron.  I thought it was a clever idea because my daughter (Molly) always tries to pull off her velcro and snap bibs and is usually successful.  I thought the bapron would be harder for babies to pull off!  Plus, it’s really cute and trendy looking.

It probably took me an hour to do one bapron.  I did run into a few snags along the way.  I made my own bias tape as the tutorial describes.  It took forever!  Next time, I will purchase the bias tape to cut down on time.  Also, I will purchase bias tape that is fairly wide.  When sewing the bias tape around the arms, I struggled to get the bias tape and material all lined up so it would stay together.  Maybe some extra practice will help!  More babies, please!!!

“You’re a Super Friend” Valentine February 20, 2012

I decided to make valentine’s to send with Sophie to preschool this year.  I saw this adorable pin of a super hero sucker.  This idea was featured in FamilyFun magazine as well.  The magazine version read “You’re a Super Friend.”  If you click on the link to FamilyFun magazine, you will find the templates that I used to create our suckers!  I cut out all the capes and masks.  Sophie glued the hearts and wrote her name on each of them.  We even made a playdate out of the activity.  Sophie’s friend, Justin, made some for his class, too!  The kids really enjoyed these!

Oven Cleaner – Baking Soda and Vinegar

Within a few days, I saw two pins that advertised an easy way to clean the glass door of an oven!  I was super excited to dry this out because mine was filthy.  I’m actually very embarrassed to show the “before” picture.  Cleaning the oven just seems to be the last thing on my mind these days.  So, I tried a few methods.

Dirty Oven Glass Door - Before

The first pin instructed me to sprinkle the glass door with baking soda and then pour vinegar over top so the door is wet.  Let sit for 20 minutes and wipe away.  I tried this technique first.  I have to admit that I loved the fizzing sound the vinegar made once poured over the baking soda.  I had high expectations that the fizzy sound was really working away the grime!  I wiped away and to my dismay (oh, that rhymes), it was still filthy.  I decided to move onto the next idea…

Oven Cleaner - After Baking Soda and Vinegar

The second pin instructed me to mix 1/4 cup of baking soda with just enough water to make a pasty mixture.  Then, spread over the glass door and let it sit for 20 minutes and wipe away.  So, I did!  Still dirty!

The third try’s the charm.  I got out an SOS pad and scrubbed away.  It took a lot of elbow grease, but my handy SOS pad saved the day!  Now, on to the rest of the oven …

I will try these methods again on a semi-dirty glass door.

Happy Valentine’s Day – 12 Preplanned Dates February 14, 2012

Happy Valentine’s Day!

For my husband (JR), I decided to use an idea I found on Pinterest.  It’s been really hard to make time for just the two of us (with our kids and work), so organizing 12 preplanned date nights for the two of us seemed like a brilliant idea!  I created envelopes for each month (February 2012 – January 2013).  In each envelope is a card that describes the date along with any items we will need for the date.  JR will open a new envelope on the 1st of each month.  We’ll work together to figure out a time/date/babysitter (if needed) to make each date happen!  I’ll add a post for each month when he opens a new envelope.

February Date

My parents are our go-to babysitters, and they will be out of town for 6 weeks!!!!  So, for February, I planned a date at home (I stole the date from Shannon’s blog).  The date card (I have to laugh when I say “date card” because I feel like I’m on “The Bachelor”) read as follows:

Let’s get our year of dates started!  Since our babysitters away, let’s have a SLUMBER PARTY FOR TWO.  Let’s get our comfy’s (this is what we call pajamas) on, blow up the air mattress (we used to do this all the time), set it by the fire and stay up as late as we can.   No slumber party, of course, is complete without … (1) Food (We’ll order pizza after the kids are asleep), (2) Treats (whatever you’re craving … a cookie pizza perhaps), (3) Games (Do you Know… Quiz Books), (4) Movie.  Love, Lisa

I included two quiz books.  The first is titled “Do you Know Your Wife?” and the other is “Do You Know Your Husband?” both by Dan Carlinsky.  I purchased them on amazon for $5 each.  The books have silly questions like “Within Two, How many keys does she carry?”  I thought it would be fun to see how well we really know each other!  I also included a $20 for pizza money.  I’ll purchase the firewood and sweets ahead of time.

March Date – Sorry, this one was private!

IKEA Spice Rack Book Shelves February 8, 2012

I saw this pin and thought it was a great idea!  I headed out to IKEA on the hunt for six spice racks.  I prowled the kitchen area of IKEA and could not find these stinkers anywhere!  I finally located someone and asked for help!  The saleswomen told me they were sold out, but then she thought she saw some under the cash register to be re-shelved.  Oh happy day, they were there!  They only had four in stock, but that was much better than none.

I painted them four different colors of acrylic paint that I already had in my collection.  I chose a yellow, pink, blue, and orange.  I installed them myself, too!
